Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud is so transparent.
So here’s me being transparent…
You may or may not know that I met my other half, Angelo, at the end of 2009. This was after exploring the world, traveling internationally and living in England for 9 years, all to come back to my home town, and meet him – someone who had literally been living up the road from the home I grew up in!
Our story is not a typical love story though. After I had hit rock bottom, I decided things needed to change and that if I carried on in the same way, I’d probably end up dead.
So I booked myself into rehab, and that is where we met. The LAST place I thought I’d meet my future husband, in all my glory… Unbeknown to me at the time, he had been praying for someone… So after intensive life skill classes, working on healing myself, 9 months later (ironically) we got married, and have been on a wild, crazy adventure ever since, sans drugs and alcohol of course – we’re wild enough!
Careline Halfway House is a long-term facility for people recovering from drug and alcohol abuse and is run by an angel, Joey Du Plessis, near Hillcrest in Kwa-zulu Natal, South Africa. The focus is to empower individuals to make positive and effective life choices in a safe and healing environment. Their motto is, “Recovery is a process, not an event”, and this is so true.
I have been in recovery for nearly 8 years now, and will remain in in recovery for the rest of my days on earth. It’s a daily journey, and it’s all about your faith and your mind.
So I am reminded again, where our journey started together. I look forward to so many more crazy adventures and the journey, and wouldn’t want to do it with anyone else, so I hope “when my hairs all gone and my memory fades, and the crowds don’t remember my name… that you’ll still love me the same”!
It’s sometimes the things that you forget to say, that are important. Especially if it’s to someone you love. It’s important to keep the flame lit and remind each other why you fell in love with them in the first place.
I’d love to hear from you! How did you meet your other half? Has this triggered some memories?
